Freecycle Recycle!

Are you a freecycler? I am! Freecycle is a network of over 8 million people worldwide who are all about reusing and recycling stuff!

Last summer I saw this post:

"I have a bunch of nice wood (maple) drawers to offer up. They came out of cabinets from our house. They are in great condition and the wood is really pretty. I don't know what people would do with them but...they are yours if you want them."

I wasn't entirely sure what I could do with wood drawers, but decided to respond to the post anyway. I was the first person to respond and the woman who posted the drawers said they were all mine! When I arrived to pick them up, she asked if I also wanted some matching cabinet doors. Heck yeah! (Again, not sure what I was going to do with them, but who can say 'no' to free?!)

Hmm.. what to do? The drawers and cabinet doors sat in my entryway for way too long, waiting for inspiration to strike. I finally decided to make something for my (way too stinkin' cute) friend Lisa, who was having a baby in October. All I needed was a little paint, some casters and rope... "Oh Hubby! I need you to pick up a few things at work today!" (He works at the orange home improvement store and loves it when I ask him to bring things home for me.)

I knew what Lisa's color scheme was for the nursery, so I used the Behr paint website to match the colors from one of her throw pillows. (Awesome!) This is where Bitter Chocolate and Pale Sky meet. Unfortunately, I don't have any "in-between" pictures of this project. After sanding, priming, painting, cutting, and drilling, we finally had a finished toy box!

Tyson's Dad is a musician. As soon as I found this cool font, I knew it would be perfect for his name! I printed the letters on regular printer paper and used Mod Podge to attach them prior to covering the entire box with polyurethane.

(My darling daughter modeling in her diaper. Man is it hard to keep pants on a 2 year old!)

What I loved about this project is that this is something that baby Tyson can use for many years to come! The drawer was deep and fits perfectly under a crib to store toys, blankets, extra diapers, etc. Then he will be able to wheel it all over the house with his treasures when he's older!

Now I just have to decide what to do with the rest of the drawers and cabinet doors....
